Tara Reed-Smith
My work is a visual exploration of identity, memory, and emotional truth. Influenced by graphic novels, comics, and animation, I construct characters and worlds that challenge linear storytelling. I am fascinated by the way we process feeling, and I often use color, texture, and pattern to represent internal states that resist language.
Afro-futurism is a guiding force in my practice, offering a framework for reimagining Black identity and liberation through futuristic, mythic, and fantasy elements. My figures are often adorned with symbols, patterns, and forms.
Through my multidisciplinary practice, I aim to create work that is both visually dynamic and emotionally resonant—art that invites viewers into a universe where introspection, resistance, and imagination coexist.
